Huntingdon College is a private Methodist liberal arts college in Montgomery, Alabama. It was founded in as a women's college. The first president was Andrew Adgate Lipscomb. Lipscomb laid the foundation of the college as a teaching college rather than a research institution. In the name was changed to "Alabama Conference Female College," as the college came under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Over four years ago, the Brevard County school board voted to adopt a new non-discrimination policy that would add lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as a protected class. By a vote, after two contentious, standing room-only public hearings, the Brevard County school board voted to add sexual orientation and gender identity to its longstanding nondiscrimination policy. The policy would result in extensive revisions to the school district's anti-harassment rules, its equal employment rules, and its grievance procedures. School districts without such guidelines have the same legal requirements, but unfortunately respond to issues and concerns with less consistency or accuracy.
