Margaret and Joe Andraos opened The Mediterranean Restaurant in because they felt that there were few places outside of Philadelphia to get healthy Mediterranean foods. Because of Margaret's Italian background and Joe's Lebanese heritage, they decided on a fusion of Italian and Lebanese foods. At "The Med" we cook and serve the foods we eat at home with family and friends! The menu varies from time to time to incorporate seasonal fruits and vegetables purchased from local growers. Grass fed meats, fresh seafood, whole grains, hand crafted pasta, and healthy, cold pressed oils are the heart of The Mediterranean's dishes. We also consider food allergies, gluten intolerance, and other special diets.

The decision was agreed upon at Tuesday night's borough council meeting and has the backing of Mayor Dianne Herrin. The ruling allows all businesses to reopen on the street, not just restaurants. The closure will be in place from Matlack Street to Darlington Street. Officials have not yet announced when it will be formally put into place, but details regarding that are forthcoming. The plan was devised by the "Main Street Strong Task Force" comprised of Herrin, the police department, borough council members, and municipal representatives from Parks and Recreation and Public Works. The measure is a significant step beyond what other local municipalities with bustling downtown districts have decided to do. Phoenixville also agreed to shutdown their main drag, but that closure is in place only from Thursday afternoons through early Mondays.

Late summer was a success once Mayor Dianne Herrin was able to maneuver necesssary approvals to shut down the state road that runs through downtown West Chester, for an Aug. Gay Street, closed off by barriers between Matlack and Darlington streets, was transformed into an large outdoor dining area, to assist restaurants and retail to continue business while also complying with Pennsylvania's health department social distancing guidelines. They said business is great sometimes, not so great other times, and that has mostly depended on the weather. They've been glad there's been a way to stay open, but they are concerned about how much business Saloon will be able to do once the weather turns cold and inside capacity is limited to 50 percent. For now, businesses were doing their best, and workers were happy the borough had made a way to keep downtown open.
